Project Hermanos Roa
The plan for 2024
In the north, a completely cleared area of 7.4 ha is converted to forest and agriculture in the first 10 years of cultivation (alternating combination of Azadirachta indica, Polyalthia longifolia and fruit-bearing trees of the area).
The selection of Polyalthia has to do with its narrow canopy, which allows light to reach the forest floor, enabling long-term agroforestry, and its alkaloid production, which can be harvested without destroying the tree.
The southern part, where the San Diego River forms the natural border with the neighbouring country, is sparsely covered with trees and shrubs. This part is planted with a timber cycle plantation and Azadirachta indica for long term soil improvement, partly with temporal agriculture.
